Special Video Showing for LGBT Month: Outrage ‘69
This engrossing documentary delves into the period when raids and police harassment of gay bars were common. In one such raid in New York City, patrons fought back and protested. This pivotal event, which became known as the Stonewall Riot, sparked an international gay rights movement. The film examines the heady early days of queer liberation and the efforts to build a multi-issue, multi-racial, militant struggle.

An appetizing seasonal supper, with vegan option, will be served at 6:30pm for a $5.00–$8.00 donation. The meeting will be held at Bread and roses Center, 819 N. Killingsworth St., Portland. All genders are welcome. Childcare will be available upon request.

Report and Film on the Impact of War on Women
Zahra Alkabi, director and founder of Save Refugees, will present on the impact of the U.S. occupation on Iraqi women and the US female soldiers serving in Iraq. Part of her presentation will feature the film Female Faces of War: Mothers, Sisters, and Soldiers, which illustrates that U.S. women are serving in unprecedented numbers and deal with the violence of sexual assault on top of the horrors of combat. Iraqi women, who are in line of fire with their families, also face the brutality of personal attacks from religious fundamentalists.

Following the film, Alkabi will talk about how women are fighting back against the war and occupation and her organization’s Apology and Forgiveness Campaign. Join the discussion!

The meeting is free and childcare will be provided.  A light meal, with vegan option, will be available at 6:15pm for a $5-$8 donation. The meeting will be held at the Bread and Roses Center, 819 N. Killingsworth, Portland (on bus lines #4 and #72).

Feminist Contingent in the March and Rally for Immigrant and Workers’ Rights
Please join us for a Feminist Contingent opposed to the ICE raids and racist U.S. immigration policies! The fracturing of families by detentions and deportations falls heavily on women and children.  As few remaining services for food, housing and healthcare remain, immigrant women are burdened with providing basic necessities for survival.

Please call Radical Women at 503-240-4462 or email rwpdx@igc.org if you are interested in marching with a feminist contingent on May Day! Or meet up with us between Smith Memorial Center and Cramer Hall at 4pm.

STUDY CIRCLE ON THE ABC’s OF MARXISM
Discuss a fascinating essay MARXISM IN OUR TIME by Leon Trotsky, a leader of the first socialist revolution ever, which took place in czarist Russia. In this pamphlet, Trotsky explains Karl Marx's basic ideas concerning what's wrong with capitalism and how workers can replace it with a system of economic and social democracy. Discover how these ideas are as relevant today as they were at the time the pamphlet was written in 1939.

This bi-weekly study circle will be held in the cafeteria of the Smith Memorial Building, Portland State University, 1825 SW Broadway, Portland (on TriMet lines #1, #12, and #44).
