October 2017 — Bulgarians demand raises. Over 10,000 workers hit the streets demanding a $59 per month raise for all tradespeople. Wages have fallen far below other European countries. Members of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CITUB) from across Bulgaria marched on Sofia to deliver their demands to the Council of Ministers.

October 2017 — County workers settle. Public employees in Lane County, Ore., who are in AFSCME Local 2831, voted to strike after negotiations stalled. For a week the 692 members picketed at nine locations, closing county health clinics and dumps. In the end, the union won a 7 percent wage increase over three years but failed to stop health care insurance increases.

November 2017 — Union, Yes! Nevada may be a right-to-work state, but that didn’t stop 900 Green Valley Ranch workers from becoming the latest casino staff to unionize around Las Vegas. An overwhelming majority of the 780 votes cast were for the Culinary and Bartenders Union Local 165, the local affiliate of UNITE HERE.
