8-session study circle: Democracy and Revolution

If this is democracy, why do we feel insecure, ignored and powerless? Join in this timely study of U.S. Marxist writer George Novack’s Democracy & Revolution.

Novack traces democracy’s 2,500-year evolution, from its roots in ancient Greece and rise through revolutionary upsurges to its decline in modern capitalism. We’ll also explore the democracy a workers’ socialist revolution could achieve.

We’ll meet alternate Wednesdays, commencing 8 November.

Democracy & Revolution is available for $28 at Solidarity Salon.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm for a $10 donation.

Location: Solidarity Salon (address and travel information is above).

Protest Milo Yiannopoulos: Stop the alt right in Australia

Infamous American alt right figure Milo Yiannopoulos is coming to Australia. Despite his claims that he is merely a provocateur, a clever and articulate critic of the censorious left, Milo's ideas are dangerous. He has expressed extreme Islamophobia, hostility toward refugees, misogyny, and transphobia. A recent buzzfeed article revealed Milo has more than flirted with Neo-Nazism. In fact, Milo was central in attempting to bring white nationalist figures into the mainstream via Breitbart news.

The Campaign Against Racism and Fascism, of which the Freedom Socialist Party is a part, is calling on people to join a broad, diverse and united protest against Milo in Australia.

CARF also opposes calls on the government to ban Yiannoplous’ entry to Australia. Increasing the government's capacity to reject people's entry into Australia on the basis of their political views is something which can only strengthen the state and rebound on progressives and the left.

Rather we say: If Milo wants to come here - let him come - but let's make him wish he never did. Protest, agitate, organise.

Location to be confirmed.
