Movie Night – Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer

This documentary features the feminist punk band, Pussy Riot, who gained widespread attention in 2012 after three of its members were charged with “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” for staging an anti-Putin demonstration in Moscow at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Two of the performers ultimately served two years in prison.

The film follows their very public trial during which they became international symbols for free speech and feminist resistance. An open discussion afterward will include an update on protest actions by Pussy Riot members today and will explore the fight for women’s rights and political freedom in Russia.

Doors open 6:30pm
