Letter to the editor: Trump props up Israeli right wing

Many thanks to the Seattle Times for presenting Ramzy Baroud's perspective on Trump's payoff for his backers in the rightwing AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). He has declared his support for Israeli control of Jerusalem.

FIGHTING NAZIS

Keep up the pressure

Monica Hill’s article in the October-November issue of the Freedom Socialist, “Anti-Nazis Overwhelm White Supremacists,” [Vol. 38, No. 5] was right on the mark. It was wrong of Socialist Action and Socialist Alternative, and others, to hold their anti-Nazi rally eight blocks away from where the Nazis were holding their rally.

When fascists come to town, liberal authorities chant, “Ignore them and they’ll go away.” But socialists and those targeted by ultra-right viciousness know it is vital to face down bigoted bullies. Treacherously, in this era of a newly-emboldened ultra-right, some socialists are withdrawing from direct counter protests. Leading the retreat is the International Socialist Organization (ISO).

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (Congo) has experienced a sadistic and murderous legacy at the hands of the rich and powerful for over 500 years. The perpetrators have changed over time but the crimes continue, and have a direct causal relationship to its current political and social agony.

Community victory against right-wing agitator Milo Yiannopoulos

The kick-off event for the far right’s “Free Speech Week” at UC Berkeley fizzled as white supremacist Milo Yiannopoulos and his supporters were outnumbered by anti-fascist protesters on Sunday. Communities Against Racism & Fascism (CARF), along with other community groups and individuals, came out to take a stand against the misogyny, transphobia, Islamophobia, and racism spewed by the former Breitbart editor and his followers.

Most people were thrilled at the immense protest against fascists and Nazis and KKKers that swept the country after Charlottesville. But the U.S. government was not pleased. It doesn’t like masses of people in the streets challenging its politics.

The Department of Homeland Security has already classified antifa (the anarchist wing of the anti-fascist movement) as “domestic terrorists.” This opens up the entire progressive movement and labor unions to similar charges, because we are all anti-fascists.

October 2017

This rally was organized by the International Socialist Organization, Democratic Socialists of America, and Workers’ Voice/La Voz de los Trabajadores, who encouraged everyone to gather at a nearby park rather than directly confront the far right. Socialist Alternative and Socialist Action were among its endorsers.

October 2017

Thunderous outrage marked a turning point in the U.S. after James Fields Jr. murdered one anti-Nazi demonstrator and injured dozens more in his Aug. 12 attack in Charlottesville, Va. The antagonism between left and right has blown wide open. And so far, those who stand against bigotry are winning.

Now is the time to build a sustained and united resistance movement. This is what it will take to counteract not only white supremacist thugs, but also the police and corporate press, who are whipping up hysteria over the supposed violence of anti-fascist demonstrators.

Berkeley White Supremacist Rally Dissolves in the Face of Massive Opposition

August 30,2017

Communities Against Racism & Fascism (CARF) declared victory after a white supremacist rally planned for Sunday, August 27 in Berkeley never materialized. CARF organizer Nancy Kato said that the group's call for the community to stand directly against the Nazis helped to discourage the ultra-right and embolden civil rights protesters.
