Letter to Seattle Voters

Dear Friends,

We can all be very proud of the tremendous showing my Freedom Socialist campaign for city council made on September 20th--18% and more than 15,000 votes!

The success of this effort is reflected in more than just the numbers. Our principled, issues-oriented, people-powered campaign exposed the inadequacies of today's pathetic minimum wage, rallied attention to saving Yesler Terrace, raised the need for an elected civilian review board over police, called for employer-funded childcare, changed people's perceptions about socialism, and more. We won the endorsement of important unions and community leaders, and consequently sent a loud message of dissent to City Hall's giveaway of Seattle to billionaires and wealthy corporations like Starbucks and Amazon.com. We showed that you can even run a first-rate, viable campaign on less than 20 grand, and honor the privacy rights of donors.

This campaign energized me and I would like your help to continue raising the important issues it generated. I hope you will take a moment to read the press release about the election. It is copied below and I think you'll find it thought-provoking. Then, I hope you'll stop by New Freeway Hall (5018 Rainier Ave. South, Seattle) in Columbia City to talk with Radical Women and the Freedom Socialist Party about politics and how to keep the pressure on City Hall and the entire rotten system. We are open from 10am to 8:30pm Monday through Fridays and are usually around on the weekends.

See you in the streets and on the bus to a better world!

In solidarity,
Linda Averill
