Emergency Demonstration for Mumia Abu-Jamal in Philadelphia
Saturday, April 19, 2008

Mumia Abu-Jamal, a journalist and former Black Panther, is on death row for a murder he did not commit. His case has now reached a crucial turning point.

On March 27, a panel of three judges on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected his appeal for a new trial. Unless this decision can be overturned, the only sentencing options are the reinstatement of the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Mumia's lawyers are appealing the decision to deny him a new trial to the full Circuit Court and are preparing to appeal to the Supreme Court, if necessary. There is cause to hope for a reversal of the panel's decision in the fact that the three-judge panel issued a split, 2-3 decision with a strong dissent written by one of the judges.

An innocent man should not spend the rest of his life in jail! Massive pressure is needed NOW!

National media will be in Philadelphia on April 19 covering the presidential primary; Mumia's supporters will be there too demanding justice.
